You may know that La Roche Posay recently formulated the much loved Anthelios Lait SPF 45 into Anthelios XL SPF 45 Cream. We had many fans of Anthelios Lait so we are often asked for an alternative. Is Anthelios XL SPF 45 Cream a good replacement for Anthelios Lait SPF 45?
What is the difference between Anthelios Lait SPF 45 and Anthelios XL SPF 45 Cream? Lait 45 contained Mexoryl SX (along with titanium dioxide and stabilized avobenzone); the new XL SPF 45 contains both Mexoryl SX, Mexoryl XL as well as the titanium dioxide and avobenzone. Both are effective products, but the new Anthelios XL SPF 45 Cream delivers better UVA and UVB protection due to the addition of Mexoryl XL. Studies have shown that the combination of Mexoryl SX with Mexoryl XL enhances the sun filtering capability of both molecules. The 45 Lait was an effective product; the new Anthelios XL SPF 45 Cream is more so.
Texture
Texture is probably the main difference between Anthelios Lait SPF 45 and Anthelios XL Cream SPF 45. Lait 45 was a lotion; Anthelios XL SPF 45 Cream, as the name suggests, is a cream. It is suitable for normal to dry skin types. If you still miss Anthelios SPF 45 Lait and would prefer a lotion based Anthelios sunscreen, you may want to consider Anthelios Lait SPF 50+. Formulated with Mexoryl SX and Mexoryl XL, it delivers excellent UVA/UVB protection in a lotion formulation.
