Winter Vacation: Anthelios Sunscreens or a Natural Sunscreen?

You are currently viewing Winter Vacation: Anthelios Sunscreens or a Natural Sunscreen?

Question: I’m going on a winter vacation, should I pack my favorite Anthelios sunscreen or should I opt for a natural sunscreen? Because Anthelios sunscreens are one of our top selling products at PhaMix, we get questions about them all year round, not just during the summer.

Answer: If you’re lucky enough to be going on a holiday this winter, whether somewhere tropical or off to the slopes to do some skiing, packing sunscreen is an absolute must. Before deciding on which sunscreen to take, ask the following questions:

  1. Does the sunscreen deliver protection from both UVA and UVB rays? Protection against both types of rays is essential in protecting against sunburn and premature aging, including some types of skin cancer. All Anthelios sunscreens and zinc oxide based natural sunscreens do.
  2. Is the sunscreen photostable? Photostability ensures that your sunscreen will hold up against exposure to UV rays. Some sunscreens actually break down when exposed to UV rays. Anthelios sunscreens and zinc oxide sunscreens (as in Keys Solar Rx, Marie Veronique sunscreens) are photostable.
  3. Do I require water resistant protection? If yes, then opt for a sunscreen that will stand up to water or heavy activity. Look for products labeled water resistant or highly water resistant, which will keep you protected for either 40 or 80 minutes in the water. Keep in mind that sunscreens labeled as waterproof, really aren’t. There is no such thing as a waterproof sunscreen. Find water resistant Anthelios sunscreens and other water resistant sunscreens here.
  4. Do I need a sunscreen for just my face (likely if you are going skiing) or for face and body? Anthelios sunscreens come in a range of formulations suitable for face or face and body application. Most of the natural sunscreens that we carry may be used for both. For help with selecting an Anthelios sunscreen, click here.

Whether you lean towards a natural zinc oxide based sunscreen or tend to favor an Anthelios sunscreen, ensure that you do take one with you. And, use it diligently, remembering delicate areas like lips (choose from our spf lip balms here. Your skin will thank you.
