Tinosorb S (Bemotrizinol): A Photostable UVA/UVB Sun Filter

You are currently viewing Tinosorb S (Bemotrizinol): A Photostable UVA/UVB Sun Filter

Tinosorb S (also known as bemotrizinol or its chemical name bis-ethylhexyloxyphenol methoxyphenyl triazine ) is a chemical sun filter approved for use in Canada, Australia and the European Union. It is a broad spectrum blocker of both short and long UVA rays as well as UVB rays (covers wavelengths between 280 and 400 nm).

Tinosorb S Is Stable
Studies have shown that Tinosorb S is highly stable when exposed to sunlight (it is photostable). In addition it’s been shown to help stabilize other sun filters such as avobenzone from degradation.

Tinosorb S Is Safe
Although long term studies in humans are lacking, it seems to have a good safety profile. Unlike some chemical sun filters, it has not been shown to possess any hormone-like (estrogenic) effects. It appears to be non-toxic and is rarely associated with skin irritation.
