Oak Extract: Effective Folk Remedy?

You are currently viewing Oak Extract: Effective Folk Remedy?

Derived from the bark of the white oak tree, oak extract is a dietary supplement with applications in skin care.

Oak bark contains a range of vitamins and minerals including calcium, manganese, selenium, iron, sulphur, Vitamins A, B and C. Oak extract derived from the bark has been used to relieve certain ailments including optimizing kidney function, easing diarrhea, and soothing inflammation. It’s also been found to help deal with gingivitis and gum pain. As with many herbal remedies there is little evidence to support the use of oak extract in these conditions, even though it’s been used as a home remedy.

When it comes to skin care, oak extract is added to formulations for its ability to boost collagen and elastin production leading to firmer and plumper skin. You can find a number of products containing oak extract. Unfortunately studies and evidence for claims are lacking and your money may be better spent elsewhere.
