If you, like me, are a devotee of Anthelios sunscreens, you’ll be familiar with their very wide range of products. We get calls every day from customers asking for help in choosing the right product for their skin, and we are always happy to help.

The selection process is made a little more bewildering because the owners of the Anthelios brand, La Roche Posay/L’Oreal, market their products around the world within different legal jurisdictions. For this reason you might find an Anthelios SPF 60 product for sale in the States which bears little or no resemblance to the Anthelios SPF 60 product sold in Europe.

Why does it have to be so confusing? The main issue for our US customers is a sun filtering ingredient called Mexoryl XL. Patented by L’Oreal and widely considered not only extremely safe but the best UVB filtering agent on the market, the USFDA continues to resist approving it for sale.

If you are buying Anthelios products online, be sure that you are getting the best protection possible, which can only come from using a product containing both Mexoryl SX (also known as ecamsule or as terephthalylidene dicamphor sulfonic acid) and Mexoryl XL (also listed under the name drometrizole trisiloxane).  Happily, here in Canada we are able to offer a range of Anthelios products with both Mexoryls, as well as Tinosorb S, titanium dioxide, and many others which allow Anthelios to offer you the most photostable and broad spectrum protection.

And feel free to give us a call if you’d like further information on selecting the right Anthelios product for you. Our customer service team is ready to assist.
