7 Habits for Beautiful Skin

Every woman desires beautiful skin, but it’s not always easy to achieve. There are some great treatments out there that can help. But, it’s not always necessary to spend hundreds of dollars on expensive creams, surgery or procedures. Here are 7 everyday habits you shouldn’t ignore if you want great skin.

  1. Drink More Tea. Nothing starts most of our mornings like a great cup of coffee. However, you may want to consider switching to tea. According to a 2009 study, tea, specifically white tea, can reduce your risk of cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, and even age-associated wrinkles. White tea contains small amounts of enzymes that can protect the body from the breakdown of collagen and elastin, two components that contribute to your skin’s firmness and elasticity and help to prevent the onset of wrinkles.
  2. Reach For An Apple; Not Jelly Beans. Sweet treats are hard to resist, yet forgoing them can keep your skin looking more youthful. Excess sugar can lead to premature aging. In a 2013 study, an increase in blood sugar levels of people between the ages of 50 and 70 made them appear anywhere from five to seven months older. The best bang for your buck is found in berries, which are rich in antioxidant compounds and may help slow the growth of certain cancers, improve brain function, muscle tone, and balance.
  3. Wear Sunscreen Every Day. Yes, we know… we say it all the time. But, the daily use of a broad-spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher can help reduce sun damage, which ages skin. Ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun are responsible for more than 90 percent of the visible signs of aging. These include wrinkles, rough patches, sagging, and skin discoloration. In addition to preventing sun damage, sunscreen can help to protect skin against skin cancer.
  4. Drink Water. Hydration helps to promote blood flow and ensures that your body is operating at optimal capacity. It ensures that the skin is being repaired.
  5. Exercise. We’ve recently blogged about how exercise can help you look younger. Beyond that, however, exercise is just plain good for you. Enough said.
  6. Have More Sex. According to Dr. David Weeks, a British psychologist, the key ingredients for looking younger are staying active, and maintaining a good sex life as you age. Having sexual intercourse three times per week, or more if you have the time and energy to do so, is the magic number for preserving your youth.
  7. Sleep More. They don’t call it beauty rest for nothing. Sleep is when your body (and skin) rejuvenates. A 2013 study found that a lack of sleep can cause premature aging of the skin, unevenness, and fine lines.

What do you think – do you incorporate these habits into your life?
