Sunscreen Tips: What Our Customers Say

woman_applying_sunscreenWe love that so many of our customers are so knowledgeable and enthusiastic about sunscreens. Once in a while, they pass on little tips to us. Not only are they figuring out ways to make it easy to incorporate sun protection into their everyday routines but they’ve also come up with tricks to ensure they get the most out of their sunscreens as possible.

Here are a few that we’d like to share. Hopefully, you’ll find them as helpful and interesting as we do!

  1. Don’t be fooled by the name. Sunscreens formulated specifically for children offer excellent protection and are often made for sensitive skin. They typically contain higher amounts of titanium dioxide and lower amounts of chemical sun filters. Although the label may say “kids” on the front, it’s also a great option for adults. New Anthelios XL SPF 50 Dermo Kids Lotion has quickly become a customer favorite this summer!
  2. Use a mineral- based tinted sunscreen for touch-ups during the day to minimize the amount of makeup that you have to take off and replace. Powders with SPF are also a good reinforcement if you have been inside all day and just want to touch up before stepping out of the office for lunch.
  3. Start with a lotion or cream sunscreen, then top with a spray sunscreen to get any little areas that may have been missed. We would suggest, however, doing a little test patch first to make sure that both sunscreen choices are compatible and don’t irritate the skin.
  4. Sunscreen too thick? One of our loyal customers dilutes his with a thinner one from the same brand for easier application. Word of warning, however: mixing sunscreens, whether with another sunscreen or with other products such as moisturizers or foundation will dilute the concentration of the sun filters. There’s no way to know for certain what kind of protection you’ll end up with.
  5. Keep your sunscreen in a small cooler in the trunk of the car. The summer heat can affect the consistency as well as stability of the sun filters when the sunscreen is stored in the glove compartment.
  6. My favorite tip? “Dot” your face with sunscreen instead of slapping on the whole amount on one side of the face and trying to spread it onto the whole face. It makes applying sun protection so much easier and even.

Have you got a special trick to maximize your daily sun protection? We’d love to hear it!
