Hydroderm: A Review

You are currently viewing Hydroderm: A Review

I often discuss over hyped skin care products and “too good to be true” manufacturer claims in this blog, so it’s not surprising that a new skin care product, Hydroderm, would catch my attention. While magazines, television and your local drugstore are a good source for these miracles in a jar, nothing can beat the internet. Perhaps it’s the ability to be anonymous while still reaching a wide audience that makes the internet such a haven for these kinds of products.

I’m not saying that all products sold on the internet are somehow illegitimate. What is important though, is that you exercise diligence. Today, let’s take a closer look at Hydroderm and see if it’s a skin care product that lives up to its claims.

What Does Hydroderm Contain?

Hydroderm’s flagship product is their Age Defying Wrinkle Serum. This product contains whole marine collagen and Vyo-Serum. While collagen is a good moisturizer, the molecule is simply too large to penetrate skin when applied topically. Despite what you may read about a new liposome delivery system able to get collagen to the dermis, I haven’t been able to substantiate this claim with any independent or published studies. From what I can ascertain regarding Vyo-Serum, it is a mixture of various proteins. It would be useful to know what types of proteins and at what concentrations, but these are not listed on the company’s website.

The Hydroderm System contains a range of products including:

Age Defying Renewal Moisturizer – hyaluronic acid and argireline to moisturize skin and smooth wrinkles

Triple Effects Eye Serum – peptides and hyaluronic acid help to moisturize and diminish appearance of wrinkles

BodyShape Skin Toning System – to reduce appearance of cellulite. Read my post on cellulite regarding  whether or not topical solutions are worth spending your money on.

So Should You Try Hydroderm?

As with any skin care product, it’s important that you do your own research. Read product reviews; don’t be lured by free trials and discount pricing to try so-so products. Hydroderm’s products contain a range of ingredients that can deliver skin benefits along with others that may or may not. While the free trial on the company sounds tempting, read the fine print to make sure you can cancel if Hydroderm doesn’t live up to its claims.

If you are concerned about keeping your skin looking youthful and healthy, stick to solutions that work. These include a well formulated broad spectrum UVA and UVB blocking sunscreen like Anthelios sunscreens; antioxidants including Vitamin C, green tea and Vitamin E to fight free radical damage; retinoids such as retinoic acid or retinol to reverse sun damage and boost collagen production and range of effective skin care ingredients that can deliver benefits to your skin.
