If you’ve done much flying, then you know how much havoc that being in the sky can play with your skin.

The tightness and dryness that accompanies air travel is largely due to the low humidity found on most flights. Humidity is a measurement of the water vapor in the air, and on a plane, it can dip to as low as 1%. Compare this to the normal humidity found in an average home – 30% to 50% – and you can appreciate why your skin and hair feel devoid of moisture. Longer flights exaggerate the problem even more.

Although most of us feel uncomfortable during a flight, if you have dry skin, the discomfort will be more noticeable. Here are 5 tips to help you cope with the negative effects of airplane skin:

  1. Stay hydrated both before and during your flight. Drink plenty of liquids such as water and unsweetened fruit juices, avoiding caffeine and alcohol, which can cause dehydration
  2. Carry a moisturizer and slather on hands (and face) as necessary.You may want to splash some water on first and then follow with moisturizer, helping to seal in some of the moisture. Choose from our range of hand moisturizers, body moisturizers and facial moisturizers.
