3 Things To Look For In Your Sunscreen

You care about your skin’s health so you wear sunscreen. This summer choose one that delivers. Here are 3 things to seek out in choosing the right product:

  • Look for SPF (Sun Protection Factor) 30 or higher. SPF is a rating system for rating for the amount of protection afforded against UVB (or Burning rays). SPF 30 blocks 97% of UVB rays (SPF 15; 93% and SPF 60 about 99%)
  • Choose a broad spectrum sunscreen that protects against both UVA and UVB rays. While UVB rays can burn, UVA rays are longer and penetrate deeper into the skin resulting in the effects known as Aging (wrinkles, fine lines, leathery skin)
  • Opt for a water resistant sunscreen if you are engaging in active play or swimming. Water resistant sunscreens give longer protection – 40 minutes – than those that are not water resistant. Highly water resistant products deliver even longer lasting protection, 80 minutes. Regardless of the sunscreen, reapply every 2 hours for optimal protection. There is no such thing as a ‘waterproof’ sunscreen.

Lastly, find a product that you like. It’s more likely that you will actually use it. We stock a wide range of effective sunscreens including Anthelios sunscreens and Ombrelle sunscreens formulated with Mexoryl SX and Mexoryl XL. View all our sunscreens here.
