The media is discussing Royal skin now – red (rosacea) Royal skin; that of Prince William in particular.

The Prince joins other well known individuals such as former US president Bill Clinton and celebrities including Sarah Michelle Geller and Ricky Gervais. Rosacea is a chronic skin condition that affects some 45 million people worldwide. It causes redness and inflammation around the cheeks, nose and forehead and has a tendency to wax and wane.

Although nobody knows for certain what causes rosacea, it tends to appear in individuals with sensitive skin and is more common in fair skinned people. The goal in treatment is to reduce the flushing and inflammation. Antibiotics are often used. In severe cases, laser treatments, light therapy or dermabrasion may be warranted. Gentle treatment is always advised.
