Cellulite – The Lowdown

If you have cellulite, you probably aren’t happy that bathing suit season is here.

You may take some comfort in the fact that most women have it, but there isn’t a cure for cellulite. Claims that promise to banish cellulite forever? Don’t buy into them, as there just isn’t any proof to support their supposed benefits.

Cellulite is fat, just plain old fat. Most commonly found on the thighs, butt and stomach, it tends to have a cottage cheese-like appearance. It is influenced by:

  • Your gender – about 90% of women, but almost no men have cellulite
  • Your genes – if your mother had cellulite, you will be more prone to it as well
  • Your weight – t he heavier you are, the more cellulite you’ll carry
  • Skin thickness – Cellulite is more visible in thinner skin
  • Age – cellulite is more likely to appear the older you are.

Women spend billions of dollars each year on products promoting their ability to ‘cure’ cellulite. Whether it’s a massage, body wrap, topical treatment or a supplement, there is no quick fix. Even liposuction can’t really help. The best thing you can do is to get and stay fit. And that doesn’t mean just losing weight, but reducing overall fat and healthy eating. Building muscle through exercise may be your best plan of attack. Muscle helps fat lay flatter, thereby diminishing the appearance of cellulite.

  1. Exercises really help, but the best way to banish cellulite is through a raw fruits and veggies diet.. and drinking lots of water
