Whether or not you enjoy a facial massage is really a matter of personal preference. While I relish the idea of a deep (and sometimes painful) back and shoulder massage to work out those deep knots that I always seem to end up with, a facial massage isn’t my cup of tea. Yet, for some, there’s nothing more blissful.

Massage is a technique that was practiced by the Chinese 3,000 years ago to help with vitality. It was brought to the USA in the 19th century, where it gained popularity and continues to be enjoyed today. A successful massage must include knowledge of the muscles, bones, nerves and the lymphatic system as well as the function of the skin.

While many of us think of massage for relaxation, it can also serve therapeutic purpose. A good facial massage for example, will include not only the face, but the shoulders and decolletage as well. Your practitioner may elect to use a facial treatment such as an anti-aging serum or moisturizing cream – a great way for you to relax and your skin to rejuvenate.

Whether or not you’re a fan of facial massages, it’s certainly a technique that many enjoy. If you partake, try and get the added benefit of a hydrating cream or antioxidant serum next time.
