An apple a day keeps the doctor away. Right?

Well, maybe not. A new group of health gurus are battling against public health agencies and weight loss companies claiming that bananas, cherries and even that antioxidant rich blueberry, will make you fatter.

The criticism? Fruits are high in carbohydrates and fructose which can cause insulin levels to spike and prevent fat burning. All fruits aren’t created equally, however. Some experts suggest that if you’re going to eat fruit choose ones that are lower on the glycemic index (berries, lemons, limes) and limit carefully those that are higher on the index (oranges, mangoes, bananas).
