Vitamin C in skin care products is a popular ingredient. And with good reason – there is substantial data to support its efficacy as an anti aging ingredient. I’ve written about it in previous posts and you can read more about Vitamin C here.
When it comes to skin, Vitamin C has many benefits:
- It stimulates the production of collagen, which forms part of the skin’s supporting framework
- It acts as an antioxidant to help reduce free radical damage to skin
- It brightens skin tone
- It helps skin to retain moisture
For these reasons, it can brighten skin tone, reduce wrinkles and improve skin texture.
One caveat – Vitamin C must be formulated correctly. It is inherently unstable and if not manufactured with care, it will not deliver any benefits and may actually be harmful to skin; actually causing free radical damage, rather than preventing it.
Although it is difficult to choose just one Vitamin C product, I’m loving Neostrata Skin Brightener. Packing a whopping 20% l-ascorbic acid, it offers one of the highest concentrations around. Sensitive skin types may prefer Neostrata Vitamin C concentrate. With 10% l-ascorbic acid, it offers the same benefits but in a concentration that may be less irritating if you have sensitive skin.
Neostrata skin brightener really works for me.
