Western red cedar trees may provide a solution for rosacea, a skin condition experienced by millions of individuals in North America. Rosacea is accompanied by flushing and redness and can leave individuals feeling self conscious about their appearance.
The active ingredient in the cedar trees has been identified as thujaplicin, which is a molecule found only in the western red cedar tree in Canada. Red cedars have been used by First Nations for medicinal purposes, and the molecule, thujaplicin, was identified in the 1930s. It has been found to contain antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties. It soothes rosacea and seems to be well tolerated by sensitive skin types.
