Does Anthelios SX deliver?
Anthelios SX was finally approved by the FDA in 2007. With an SPF of 15, Anthelios SX delivers the UVA protection offered by Mexoryl SX, a photostable (doesn’t degrade when exposed to sun) sun filtering agent. Mexoryl SX is combined with Avobenzone and Octocrylene to deliver a broad spectrum UVA and UVB blocker. |
Is Anthelios a good sunscreen?
Anthelios SX is technically a moisturizer with sunscreen protection, but it does offer an SPF of 15 only. Many healthcare professionals recommend a minimum of SPF 30 protection to guard against damage caused by the sun’s rays. And many recommend an SPF of 60, particularly if you are photosensitive or have had skin cancer.
So should I use Anthelios SX?
Anthelios SX is one of the best broad spectrum sunscreens available on the US market. It contains Mexoryl SX, which is a very effective UVA blocker. However, La Roche Posay, the company that markets Anthelios, also manufactures Mexoryl XL, another UVA filtering agent. When compared to Mexoryl SX, Mexoryl XL covers a broader range of the UVA spectrum giving you better protection against sun damage, including wrinkles, saggy, leathery skin, age spots and some types of skin cancers.
In addition, some Anthelios products also combine Mexoryl SX with Mexoryl XL giving even more protection than either molecule alone. This is because the two Mexoryl molecules combined, have a synergistic effect.
Anthelios sunscreens that contain Mexoryl SX, Mexoryl XL, Avobenzone (stabilized with Octocrylene) plus Titanium Dioxide include:
