|The Rosebud Perfume Company was founded by druggist Dr. George F. Smith, in 1895. The business began in a small drugstore across the street from what is now known as the Rosebud Building in Woodsboro, Maryland.
Friends and customers suggested that Dr Smith prepare for them a family salve that could be used for various minor skin irritations. With this as a challenge, Dr. Smith formulated a product known as Smith’s “Balsam of Rosebuds” which was later renamed Smith’s “Rosebud Salve.” The product took off and Dr. Smith decided to advertise his product in country tabloids. Within a few years he had organized one of the most unique mail order businesses in the United States. The success of Rosebud Salve allowed Dr. Smith to sell his drugstore and purchase a hotel, which has served as the home of Rosebud products for over 100 years.
Today G.F. Smith, the Rosebud Perfume Company, and the Rosebud Building have all stood the test of time. Fine Rosebud products are still being sold locally, nationally, and internationally. Rosebud’s success has been selling at reasonable prices quality products that can be used and enjoyed by the whole family.
Rosebud Perfume Company’s flagship product is Smith’s Rosebud Salve, but several other products exist as well. All prroducts are owned and formulated by the Rosebud Perfume Company, and are 100% made in the U.S.A. (The tins are manufactured by Ball Corporation, formerly U.S. Can in Baltimore, MD.) The salve itself is prepared and poured by Case Mason in Joppa, Maryland.
