For whatever reason, you may have decided that you’re not the Botox kind of girl; in which case, you’ll be happy to hear about one of the latest procedures being used to treat wrinkles: acupuncture.
What Is Acupuncture?
Perfected over thousands of years of practice in China, acupuncture is a practice that involves the insertion of tiny needles into any one of hundreds of predetermined points on the body which have been mapped out. It grew out of the theory that yin and yang are two forces in our bodies that must be balanced in order to bring harmony and health. Disease or discomfort is an imbalance of yin and yang and may cause the life force energy, qi (pronounced chee) to become blocked and unable to circulate. Acupuncture is believed to clear the channels, leaving qi to circulate normally. The clear channel leads to restoration of balance and health.
While acupuncture has traditionally been used to relieve pain (particularly in arthritis), it has also been used to treat patients with facial paralysis caused by Bell’s palsy or stroke. Treatment was so effective that it naturally evolved into a procedure for anti-aging and beauty purposes.
What Can Acupuncture Do For Your Skin?
Practitioners state that while they cannot eliminate wrinkles, they can minimize their depth. Patients typically notice changes in face and skin after 3 treatments, although this will vary due to each patient’s individuality. In addition to wrinkles, patients claim that it helps to treat acne. And, skin enjoys an overall rejuvenation.
Right For You?
eep in mind that although acupuncture is effective in helping to relieve pain, that its benefits in cosmetology are less well documented. And, the cost isn’t negligible – a typical session can run you anywhere from $50 up to $100. Side effects are minimal (some slight tingly at site of needle insertion) to none, so if this treatment intrigues you, then it certainly may be worth consideration.
This is the first time I heard acupuncture can help minimize wrinkles. Interesting… thanks for sharing.
It’s because acupuncture helps muscles to relaxed and our face are known to be stretched and stress whenever we laugh, smile or fawn.
