Skin’s youthful appearance is dependent on a number of factors and one is its ability to reflect light. The skin is comprised of 3 main layers – the stratum corneum (skin’s uppermost layer), the middle epidermis, and the deeper dermis. Light may be reflected partly from the stratum corneum and partly from the dermis (via the translucent epidermis).
If the stratum corneum is adequately moisturized and relatively free of dead skin cells, it appears more translucent and reflects light more evenly, leaving skin to glow. If skin is dry and covered with dead skin cells, then light is scattered instead of reflected, leaving it with a dull appearance. That’s why it’s so important to use moisturizers and topical exfoliants – they help skin to stay healthy – increasing its ability to reflect light.
An excellent moisturizer to consider is Keys Luminos. Developed in conjunction with Hollywood make-up artists, Luminos not only contains moisturizers that help to alleviate dry skin, but also other ingredients that help to reflect light giving skin a radiant glow.
