A relatively new ingredient to hit the skin care market, coffee berries (CoffeeBerry is the trademarked name) refer to the whole fruit of the coffee bush. Red in color, the bean is found inside the fruit.
Coffee berries are rich in antioxidants as the plants grow near the equator and at high altitudes where the sun’s rays are strongest. To protect itself from high exposure to ultraviolet radiation, the plant synthesizes potent antioxidants – polyphenols and phenolic acid – along with other nutrients including ferulic acid, proanthocyanadin and chlorogenic acid. While found in other fruits and berries, the concentration of antioxidants in the coffee berry is highly concentrated and believed to be three times higher than that found in green tea.
Coffee polyphenols have been shown to neutralize free radicals, protect against systemic oxidative stress, help reduce the incidence of oxidative pathologies and provide health benefits associated with glucose management, anxiety, type-2 diabetes and oral health. Available as a powder and as an extract, CoffeeBerry may be taken as a dietary supplement or applied topically to skin.
When applied to skin, it is believed that CoffeeBerry can help to prevent cellular damage. Tests have also shown that it may benefit wrinkles, dry skin and discolorations as well as treat inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema and contact dermatitis. It is found in a range of skin care products.

Wow I didn’t know that coffee berries existed. Are they only used in skin care, or can they be eaten as well? They look somewhat like cranberries. I didn’t realize all the positive uses they have for healthy skin and to lower oxidative stress. Thank you for the information.
