With today’s buzz surrounding “natural skin care”, it’s not surprising that there would be a focus on new and natural anti aging ingredients. Keep in mind that the term natural isn’t regulated so a cosmetics company is free to market the word as it sees fit.
Despite this, if you are someone interested in pursuing ingredients truer to nature then you may want to know about these new innovations:
- Myoxinol—Derived from the hibiscus plant, these oligopeptides claim to help inhibit muscle-cell contraction and fight cellular aging.
- Macelignan—Diminishes the appearance of wrinkles by causing adipose (fat) tissues to increase in volume. Comes from nutmeg.
- Zirhafirm— a four-part combination which includes zizyphus jujuba seed extract to recover and maintain skin’s firmness and elasticity by helping activate gene expression and strengthening intracellular unions.
- EcoBidens—A three-part blend decreases inflammatory mediators that can prematurely age skin. Protects DNA resistance and senescence, helps improve fibroblast proliferation and re-establishes antioxidant enzymes after sun stress.
- Elestan LS 9913—Four-in-one protection that repairs activity on the skin’s elastic fiber network, and helps to enhance skin firmness, resilience and elasticity.
- Bioskinup Contour 3R—An eight-part synergistic blend of Brazilian and European plants which has anti-inflammatory, anti-edematous and venous protection.
- 1,3-Propanediol—A corn-based humectant, which attracts moisture to skin.
- Adansonia digitata—This oil is harvested from a region in South Africa and helps repair damaged skin and offers relief from dry, damaged skin.
- Aquasense 3R—A moisturizer which helps prevent skin aging by increasing moisturization from inside out.
- Artocarpus incises – An extract of Thai breadfruit which has potential to be better than kojic acid (and may make a great substitute for hydroquinone).
One of the advantages of natural anti aging ingredients include their potential for fewer side effects. But this isn’t always the case. And just because a cosmetics manufacturer makes a claim that an ingredient can do something, it doesn’t mean it can. As always, do your research first – natural or not.
