Baobab seed oil comes from the Baobab Tree (Adansonia digitata), a massive tree that lives to be 100 years old and which is found in hot, dry savannahs of sub-Saharan Africa.
The tree produces an edible fruit which is high in calcium and antioxidants such as vitamin C. Because of its nutritional benefits, it is considered by many to be a superfruit. Along with the fruit, the tree contains edible leaves, which may be consumed as a relish. The seed is the source of baobab seed oil, which in itself is edible.
Baobab seed oil has been used in skin care for centuries. It is rich in texture, golden colored and has a slightly nutty smell. It has a high content of vitamins A, D, E along with essential fatty acids and makes an excellent moisturizer for both skin and hair. It has been shown to help relieve symptoms associated with eczema and psoriasis. It is fast absorbing and non-comedogenic. Look for it in creams, lotions, body butters and hair care preparations.
