The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) has issued new recommendations for melanoma treatment in response to an increased incidence of the deadliest form of skin cancer.
An extensive review of scientific literature has resulted in updated evidence based guidelines for melanoma treatment, which were published online in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology. The new guidelines offer physicians clinically sound recommendations. The first step for a definitive diagnosis is a biopsy of the lesion. Surgical removal of the lesion and surrounding tissues is the primary melanoma treatment.
Melanoma treatments should always be tailored to meet individual patients’ needs and early detection is imperative.
