Cellulite is an issue that everyone worries about. Women of all shapes and sizes struggle with it and the cosmetics industry is all too willing to provide us with ‘solutions’ that promise to send it away for good. If you’re thinking of spending money to be rid of it before swimsuit season next summer, here are 3 top myths to consider before you buy.
Myth 1: Cellulite is a different type of fat. Although it looks like cottage cheese, cellulite is just plain old fat. It’s more common in women than men and influenced by your genes, your weight and skin thickness (thin skin shows cellulite more).
Myth 2: Skin care treatments can make cellulite disappear. From body wraps and massages to topical creams and vitamins, there isn’t a shortage of cellulite treatments. Yet despite all the advertising claims, there isn’t any scientific evidence to support the majority of treatments and procedures. Experts agree that getting fit is your best bet.
Myth 3: Losing weight will make cellulite go away. Unfortunately it isn’t as simple as this but you can do something about it. Exercise is a big part of the equation helping to build muscle and creating a firm base that helps fat lie flat. It won’t get rid of cellulite permanently but it will help to diminish its appearance with the added benefit of boosting your spirits.
