With just a few weeks until the holidays, many people are preparing to travel, and whether you’re heading off on a sunny getaway or getting ready to hit the slopes, we’ve put together a list of our winter holiday skin care essentials to help make packing that much easier.
If you’re going somewhere warmer (lucky you!), you’ll want to leave room in your suitcase for these hot weather must-haves:
*Sunscreen. Choose a stable, broad-spectrum sunscreen like Anthelios to protect you from the sun’s burning (and aging!) rays. With its velvety-dry finish, Anthelios XL SPF 45 Spray is our family favorite. Even the kids don’t mind this one, and every parent knows that’s half the battle. Anthelios XL SPF 60 Melt in Cream in the 100ml tube is the one that goes in the carry on, just in case the luggage goes astray.
*Moisturizer. For the face, La Roche Posay Hydraphase UV provides light hydration with added sun protection. For the body, Posthelios Hydrating After-Sun gel is enriched with lipid-replenishing shea butter to soothe and nourish dried out skin from overdoing it at the beach.
*Micellar cleanser. These convenient cleansers are suitable for all skin types, don’t need water to work and require no rinsing. Splash some on a cotton pad and apply to face, gently cleaning off dirt and oil. These efficient cleansers are ideal for bringing on long flights to freshen up. Just make sure to transfer into a travel-sized bottle within limits set by the airlines.
If you’re going somewhere colder and snowy, consider packing these skin-protecting products:
*Neostrata Moisture Sheet Mask. Not only will the low humidity on the airplane strip moisture from your skin, but the cold winter air will also leave your skin parched. After a day on the slopes, instantly replenish your skin’s moisture with this hydrating sheet mask. It also works well while you’re on the plane and need an extra moisture boost to fight off the effects of the recycled air.
*Heavier moisturizer. Sub-zero temperatures can really do a number on your skin. Go a little heavier with the moisturizer to counter-act the drying effects. La Roche Posay Hydraphase Intense Riche fits the bill, delivering soothing and lost-lasting hydration while helping the skin retain water. For the body, I’m loving the 20% shea butter in Lipikar Body Balm.
*Sunscreen. Yes, even in cold climates. Snow can reflect as much as 80% of UV radiation, nearly doubling the amount of exposure to the damaging rays. Sunscreen is a must before heading off for the slopes. Make reapplication easy and convenient with Anthelios XL SPF 60 Targeted Stick. Small enough to slip into a pocket – effective sun protection without the bulk of a bottle.
And whether you choose the sand or the snow, you’ll find a hundred and one uses for Apothekari’s 100% pure argan oil. A few drops will moisturize and protect the skin, soften the body as a bath oil, control frizzy flyaway hair, even condition hair that’s been damaged by chlorine and saltwater. There’s a reason this is called liquid gold!
Bon voyage to all the jet-setters! And to those who are staying home this season, there’s always the Travel Channel.
