What is CellOx Shield?

You are currently viewing What is CellOx Shield?

CellOx Shield is a sun filtering system composed of 5 sun filters that have been around for many years including:

  • Avobenzone
  • Homosalate
  • Octisalate
  • Octocrylene
  • Oxybenzone

Marketing may lead you to believe that Cell-Ox Shield is innovative and better than anything else on the market, but the sun filters in Cell Ox Shield can be found in many other sunscreens currently available at your local drugstore.

While CellOx Shield will deliver protection against both UVA and UVB rays, it isn’t as ‘innovative’ as the manufacturers will have you believe. Avobenzone is appropriately stabilized with octocrylene and delivers good UVA protection. Oxybenzone is perhaps the most problematic ingredient in Cell Ox Shield as it has been associated with skin allergies, hormone disruption and cell damage. Just as troubling, studies have shown it can generate free radicals which age skin. Exactly what you don’t want your sunscreen doing.

CellOx Shield Isn’t Mexoryl

Yes, Cell Ox Shield is new and it can be found in Anthelios sunscreens in the USA(a bit of deceptive marketing as Anthelios sunscreens are more widely known for their protection with Mexoryl SX and Mexoryl XL). Anthelios sunscreens found in Canada and Europe utilize the latest technology incorporating Mexoryl SX, Mexoryl XL and Tinosorb S. These sun filters combine safety with efficacy to deliver products unparalleled in protecting you and your family from the damaging effects of UV rays. They are the ones associated with the ‘best sunscreen’ in the world – Anthelios sunscreens. But, you can only find this formulation in Canada and Europe.
