Dehydral is a topical cream formulated with methenamine used to treat plantar hyperhidrosis.
Plantar hyperhidrosis is condition in which feet experience excessive sweating, sometimes accompanied by foot odor. Although its cause is unknown, it may be triggered by diet, anxiety or sympathetic nervous overactivity. One way to treat it is with Dehydral (methenamine).
Dehydral contains an 8% concentration of methenamine and is indicated to control hyperhidrosis of the feet. It is applied to soles, heels and between toes regularly or as directed by a physician. Feet should be kept dry and free of odor. Although the treatment tends to be well tolerated, sometimes the skin reacts with a little peeling or hardening. This is normal and can be treated by applying an emollient cream such as Uremol.
Other options for the treatment of plantar hyperhidrosis include aluminum chloride , injections of Botox and similar treatments, which work by “freezing” the sweat glands, microwave treatment, iontophoresis (blocking sweat glands through a low electric current therapy) and drugs which block messages to the brain. Hypnosis has also been proposed as a helpful treatment.
