In the skincare world, cleansers have not typically shown much revolutionary change. New and exciting would not normally be the words used to describe the products that have been lining store shelves, but in recent years, this has changed dramatically. Gone are the days when cleansing your face meant grabbing any bar of soap available (and if you’re still doing this, I beg of you: please stop).
Not only are the forms and textures changing, making cleansing the highlight of the daily routine, but the added ingredients are pumping up the skin benefits. Apart from the more commonly found additives such as alpha hydroxy acids and jojoba beads for exfoliating, you’ll also find maple water, fruit extracts, antioxidants like green tea and anti-irritants such as allantoin.
If you’ve already been won over by the miracle of micellar cleansers, keep an eye out for these new products that have recently arrived in stores:
- One step double cleansers: After finally convincing North Americans that double cleansing was the way to go, hand it to the Korean skin care industry to merge a two-step process into one handy two-in-one product. These new cleansing milks have the glossy consistency of lotions that are applied to a dry face and massaged gently to remove makeup, sunscreen and impurities. Step 1 done. Add a little bit of water to work up a foam to complete Step 2 of double cleansing, rinse well and pat dry. East meets West in a multi-tasking product with a Korean skincare focus.
- Cleansing mousses. Think shaving foam and you’re on the right track. Most foaming cleansers require a bit of water and building up of a creamy lather with which to wash the face. Cleaning mousses essentially do the job for you, plus it’s so much fun to dispense out of the container.
- Effervescent bubbling foam. Just when you thought things couldn’t get more entertaining, consider a foam cleanser infused with effervescent, carbonated water. Shake container, dispense onto hands and gently apply to a dry face. The combination of massaging the product into the skin and the tingling bubbles work to deep cleanse pores. We can see this appealing to teens but wouldn’t mind giving it a try ourselves.
Who knew facial cleansers could be this innovative and exciting?
