Spring may be the season of rebirth and growth but fall is really when fashion (and make-up) hits its stride. Maybe it’s the back-to-school feeling of refreshing my wardrobe or the thick magazines that line the store shelves every September. And although I am not usually one for tons of makeup, this season’s trends actually seem wearable, reasonable, and, more importantly, easy.
Here are a few that I plan to embrace this fall:
1. Bold Brows: As we age, the contrast between our facial features and skin tends to decrease, leaving us looking a little washed out. Bolder brows create a frame for our face, and it’s surprising how adding a little color and definition can take years off our appearance.
2. Elaborate Nails: The trend of nail art is still going strong. The best part is that it’s simple and you can’t go wrong. Well at least if you go wrong, it’s easy to fix. The market is flooded with nail varnish that glitters and sparkles. There are even some that are fuzzy! If the two-tone look is more your style, the magic word is: tape. Like painting stripes on walls, two-color nail art is similar but on a smaller scale. Simply apply two base coats in your favorite color and allow to dry completely. Next, place a strip of tape at an angle over the bottom half of the nail and paint the top half a contrasting color. Allow to dry slightly before carefully removing the tape. Apply a clear top coat to seal the colors and voilà!
3. Stained Lips: Wine and plum are the lip colors of choice in the fall, but opt for a stained and matte finish instead of one that is glossy or shimmery. This trend is in keeping with ….
4. Matte Face: Gone is the dewy fresh look of spring and summer. Fall’s face is gentle, velvety soft and completely bereft of shine. Pressed powder applied with a big, fluffy brush will give you the modern, elegant and finished look for fall.
5. Cat Eyes: Cat eyes have been on- trend for a while now, but traditional liquid liners have never been easy to master. With more and more liquid liners that come in the form of felt-tip pens, there’s no excuse not to give this one a try. If you can use a marker, you can definitely wear liquid liner now.
